One of my favorite places to camp is Cape Disappointment State Park in Washington. Cape Disappointment is a notable maritime location in the Pacific Northwest where the Columbia River empties into the Pacific Ocean, creating one of the most dangerous bars in the world for ships to cross. Winter storms can be fierce here and create a very dangerous surf, which has lead to hundreds of shipwrecks at this entrance to the river and along this area of the Pacific Coast. I went to Cape Disappointment to photograph waves, but despite the cold windy days, the waves were not as spectacular as I had hoped. A favorite location in the park is Deadman’s Cove, located just under Cape Disappointment Lighthouse and while I didn’t get any spectacular wave shots, I was able to capture this sunset photo taken during my evening visit to Deadman’s Cove. So my stay at the park proved not to be a “disappointment” after all. =efh=
