The early morning has always been my favorite time of the day. Even when I was a kid I would get up early while my mom and dad, brother and sister slept. It was my time to have the house and our neighborhood to myself if I ventured outside. I feel the same way now about the morning in Sandwich, MA. I love getting up early before everyone else, and finding that one place where I can be on my own and watch the wildlife awaken along with the sunrise. On this morning in a Cape Cod marsh I stood alone and watched a Great Blue Heron stand motionless in the swamp waiting for breakfast while a few gulls scavenged the shorelines…and the sun sneak up over the horizon.
