Snowy Owl at Nisqually

While kayaking at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, I happened upon a snowy owl resting on a cedar stump. While I was excited to watch the owl from a non-threatening location on the water in a kayak, I also couldn’t ask for a better setting to capture it’s photo. Sometimes the light is just right and In that area with the Olympics in the background and the dark sky, the composition and lighting was ideal for this shot. The gray dark sky left just enough light on the owl to make it stand out against the Olympic’s in the background. I have to admit, it is one of my favorite photos.

I submitted this photo in the Thurston County Fair Photo exhibit and was surprised when it took first place and also won the Peoples Choice Award.  =efh=
